2025 Chinese New Year

The Chinese New Year celebration, also known as the Spring Festival (春节, Chūnjié), is the most important traditional holiday in Chinese culture. Key traditions include:

  • Family reunions and a special New Year’s Eve dinner
  • Decorating homes with red lanterns and spring couplets
  • Giving red envelopes filled with money to children
  • Setting off fireworks to ward off evil spirits
  • Performing lion and dragon dances
  • Cleaning the house thoroughly before the new year to sweep away bad luck
Chinese New Year in 2025 (Year of the Snake) begins on January 29, 2025 and ends on February 16, 2026.

The Chinese zodiac (生肖, shēngxiào) consists of a 12-year cycle, with each year represented by a specific animal.

Be the Light Association celebrated the 2025 Chinese New Year through meaningful partnerships with local schools and community organizations. On Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, Be the Light Association partnered with Pontiac United to celebrate Chinese New Year with students from the Free After School Tutoring Program. The students enjoyed a vibrant cultural showcase that brought the festive spirit of the holiday to life.
